OBSA PONY Softball
Senior Division
Girls 15-18* years old
The Senior Division is the fifth level in the girl's softball program. It is open to girls 15 through 18 years of age. A player's age as of December 31 determines the age in which the player is eligible to play following year.
*[Note: 14 year olds that played in the Senior Division during the 2009 season are "grandfathered" in and will be able to participate on the same team in the 2010 season. If a grandfathered 14 year old player who played in the Senior Division last season chooses not to remain on the same team, that player must go through the evaluation process and re-enter through the draft. Please see evaluation dates and times on the home page. 14 year old players who did not participate in the Senior Division during the 2009 season, must participate in the Majors Division in 2010.]
The Senior Division is designed to teach and advance the girls knowledge of softball. Proper throwing, batting and fielding techniques will be taught along with bunting and stealing bases. Our Senior Division offers the girls high school type play in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. IHSA and PONY Girls Softball rules will apply except for the rule variances.
Due to high school sports, practices start the last week in April and games begin the first week in June. The season ends mid July. Practices are scheduled during the week and on weekends. Games are played during the week and on Saturdays. However, make-up games could be scheduled on Sundays if necessary.
The season consists of 14 games and a single elimination play-off tournament at the end of the season.
Games are played at various school and park district fields within the 308 district.
In the Senior Division the girls are allowed to remain on the same team for all 4 years. For new girls coming into the league, or girls moving up to the Senior Division, teams are assembled through a player evaluation and coach draft process. Player evaluations are held in late February or early March at the Oswego High School Field house. All players are encouraged to attend the evaluation. However, if a player cannot attend the evaluation they are assigned to a team by a blind draw.
Siblings will automatically be placed on the same team.
If a player is already on a Senior Division team from last season and wants to move to a different team for the upcoming season they must go through the player evaluations and coach drafting process again.
