OBSA Majors General Information Updated 3/1/2010

OBSA PONY Softball

Major Division

 Girls 13-14* years old

The Major Division is the fourth level in the girl's softball program.  It is open to girl's 13 and 14 years of age.  A player's age as of December 31 determines the age in which the player is eligible to play following year.

*[Note: 14 year olds that played in the Senior Division during the 2009 season are "grandfathered" in and will be able to participate on the same team in the 2010 season.  If a grandfathered 14 year old player who played in the Senior Division last season chooses not to remain on the same team, that player must go through the evaluation process and re-enter through the draft.  Please see evaluation dates and times on the home page.  14 year old players who did not participate in the Senior Division during the 2009 season, must participate in the Majors Division in 2010.]

The Major Division is designed to teach young players the basics of softball (proper throwing, batting and fielding techniques will be taught.) It is also designed to prepare the girls for high school style play and rules of softball.  Base lead-offs, stealing, bunting, stealing from third to home, drop third strikes, and infield fly rules will be apply.  Players will pitch the entire game.

Practices start the first week in April and games begin the first week in May.  The season ends by the last week in June.  Practices are scheduled during the week and on weekends.  Games are played during the week and on Saturdays.  However, make-up games could be scheduled on Sundays if necessary.

The season consists of 14 games and a single elimination play-off tournament at the end of the season.

Games are played at various school and park district fields within the 308 district.

Teams are assembled through a player evaluation and coach draft process.  Player evaluations are held in late February or early March at the Oswego High School Field house.  All players are encouraged to attend the evaluation.  However, if a player cannot attend the evaluation they are assigned to a team by a blind draw.  Siblings will automatically be placed on the same team.
