OBSA PONY Softball
Minor Division
Girls 9-10 years old
The Minor Division is the second level in the girl's softball program. It is open to girls 9 and 10 years of age. A player's age as of December 31 determines the age in which the player is eligible to play following year.
The Minor Division is designed to teach young players the basics of softball (proper throwing, batting and fielding techniques will be taught.) Base lead-offs and stealing are introduced in this division, as well as, bunting.
Practices start the first week in April and games begin the first week in May. The season ends by the last week in June. Practices are scheduled during the week and on weekends. Games are played during the week and on Saturdays. However, make-up games could be scheduled on Sundays if necessary.
The season consists of 14 games and a single elimination play-off tournament at the end of the season.
Games are played at various school and park district fields within the 308 district.
Teams are assembled through a player evaluation and coach draft process. Player evaluations are held in late February or early March at the Oswego High School Field house. All players are encouraged to attend the evaluation. However, if a player cannot attend the evaluation they are assigned to a team by a blind draw. Siblings will automatically be placed on the same team.
