Eric Lederman Updated 4/20/2012

Oswego Baseball and Softball Association (OBSA) in conjunction with Oswego Youth Tackle Football (OYTF), have set up a memorial fund for "Eric Lederman."

Monetary donations can be made to the memorial fund at Allied First Bank, 3201 Orchard Road, Oswego, Illinois 60543 (tel.: 630-383-0161) under "Eric Lederman Memorial Fund."  or through the direct link located on the OYTF website by clicking  here:

Lederman - Take Them A Meal Scheduler Updated 4/16/2012

Dear Parents:

To assist the Lederman's through this tough time, OBSA and OYTF has set up a program through "www.takethemameal.com.

About this free service:   TakeThemAMeal.com is an online tool for coordinating the delivery of meals to loved ones. If someone is ill, elderly, or has had a new baby, oftentimes family, friends, co-workers, church members rally around these families to take them meals. In the past, one person would coordinate (by phone or e-mail) the scheduling of the meals. Now, the meal coordinator can use TakeThemAMeal.com to allow the meal providers to sign up for the day or days when they will provide meals to the meal recipients.   All you have to do is go to the website at http://www.takethemameal.com/ and in in the "Find a Meal Schedule" pane, type in Lederman as the receipients name and Lederman for the password.  Update from Cindy Marsh coordinating the "take them a meal" program for the Lederman family:
I have had several inquiries regarding the "take them a meal" website for the Lederman family. The dates filled quickly but we will gladly still accept all donations of meals for the family. I have extended the date on the site allowing for more donations. HOWEVER, gift cards for pizza, restaurants, grocery stores etc. are a great alternative. It does not have to be a huge dollar amount or from any place fancy. We are simply trying to eliminate the need for Cheryle to worry about "What's for dinner" for her and her family. I don't really know how her schedule will play out over the next several months under these unfortunate circumstances and the delivery of Hot homecooked meals (while very thoughtful and a wonderful help) may not always work into their schedule. The Gift cards allow them to purchase their meals as they find necessary and around their schedule. If you decide you'd rather cook, we are encouraging donations to be 100% freezable so that they can be thawed or used as needed.

You are welcome to mail Gift Certificate Donations to The Lederman Family c/o Me (same address as on the website) and we will pass them along to the family. or you may drop them by my house...just call me first so I know someone will be there to receive the donation.

Everyone has been so wonderful.....I know I can speak for Cheryle, Brian and the kids when I say we are overwhelmed and so very greatful for your thoughts, prayers and support.
Cindy Marsh cmarsh210@sbcglobal.net 630-768-9224

   Thank you.   John

Official Press Release Updated 4/16/2012
 Press Release

April 13, 2012

It is with great sadness that School District 308 and the Oswego Baseball and Softball Association (OBSA) mourn the sudden passing of a sixth-grade Thompson Junior High School student and OBSA 12U-Orange travel baseball team member.

During a baseball game in Wheaton Wednesday evening, the 12-year old boy was accidently struck in the neck with a ball. The boy was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and then air lifted to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he passed away Thursday evening.

According to the Thompson staff, he was a student who had great character and a wonderful sense of humor.  As a member of the wrestling team he was always willing to help out: in practice, at meets, or in the hallways. His caring attitude towards his peers, quick wit and dedication to teamwork are things that will be remembered about him at Thompson Junior High.

Individuals throughout the area are greatly affected by the news as an older sibling and his team members attend various schools throughout the district.

In response, school counselors, social workers and nurses are available at every school to assist students and staff who are personally touched by this news. Parents are encouraged to be especially sensitive to their children's response to this tragedy and to inform the school if their children are in need of additional support.

"He was an inspiration to his teammates, coaches, and baseball family," said his baseball coach, Brian Zacker.  He played in-house baseball for two years followed by OBSA travel baseball for three years wearing #2 with his primary positions being catcher, third base, and centerfield.

"He played with an infectious smile and played the game with tremendous passion and heart," Zacker continued.  His trademark move was to clap his batting gloves together continuously when he got on base to distract the pitcher.  We could always hear when he was on base. He was also the comedian of the team. Whether we lost 2-1 or 20-1, he would always say something in our post game huddle that would make us laugh. He brought a tremendous amount of joy, passion, and love to his team, coaches, and baseball family and we will never forget him. He may have been #2 in the field, but he will always be #1 in our hearts."

Heartfelt sympathy goes out from District 308 and OBSA to all those affected by this tragic loss, especially our student's immediate family. Information regarding services and arrangements will be posted on the baseball association's website at http://www.oswegobsa.org/ as this information becomes available.
